History of YTP Ottawa
The Ottawa Chapter of the Youth Tutoring Project (YTP) was the original YTP center of operation. In 2024 it separated to become a separate chapter and came under new management. Despite the recent changes, it stays true to the belief that education is a student's number one tool to a bright future and a vision to make this accessible across Ottawa and the Greater Ottawa Area. With a group of trained and dedicated volunteer tutors, bloggers who explain expert tips and tricks for academics, and an ever-growing set of students, this vision is becoming a reality. Tutors focus on making sure not to force students to learn in one specific "right way". Instead, tutors use a variety of tools according to the "YTP learn by passion method" so that students fully understand information while retaining their unique perspectives. Meanwhile, the internal team works hard to maintain the operation, keeping tutors connected with students, addressing concerns, and training new volunteers to continue growing the chapter. Both tutors and the internal management team work to give all students the educational tools to succeed, no matter their background.
Tutoring
At the YTP Ottawa Chapter, we plan to expand our horizons. While younger students often need help, high school students have to deal with what is often very difficult work and this can be daunting for many. It is for this reason that YTP Ottawa is proud to announce a new program currently being created to bring free tutoring for high school students as well. This new program would allow students to better understand the foundations of many of the most popular high school courses, such as STEM, english and french. With help in these subjects, YTP Ottawa hopes to bring high school students to another level in their academics.
Volunteering
Volunteering at the Ottawa YTP Chapter is a perfect way to foster an academic community. Volunteering is completely virtual, providing flexible hours, no commute times, and minimised risk for volunteers. By filling out the application form, volunteers are guaranteed a maximum of 2 days before they receive a response on their applications. After an interview and volunteer training, they will be ready to be assigned to students. In general, volunteers will be assigned to students 3 years below their grade level. However, if any volunteers feel that they would do better tutoring higher grade levels, especially high school grade levels, they can email at ytp.Ottawa@gmail.com to join the new program.
